Wireless Indoor Outdoor Speakers

My Griffin Evolve wireless speakers (ipod docking station) will not work if I take them off of the base?

I have it actually plugged into my laptop currently, speakers work on base, but not if I take them off. Green lights are on and indicating fully charged.

1. Does it have any special configuration setting needed on your operation manual? Sometimes it requires you to adjust output source and volume as well...
